Watkins bookshop in London has been encouraging spiritual discovery and providing seekers with esoteric knowledge for over 120 years. Founded in 2011, Watkins started publishing the 100 list with the goal of celebrating the world’s living spiritual teachers. The list is made in hopes that you feel as inspired as each individual’s significant impact.
Janice Sarich is an intelligent woman with experience and significant expertise gained through years of public service and entrepreneurship. She is known for being approachable, engaging, and open-minded with a demonstrated record for taking a clear stand on difficult issues. Janice’s focus is always the interests of people first, and she carries that guiding principle along with accountability with her today.
Janice is a proud Albertan, born and raised in Edmonton. She is a fourth generation Ukrainian-Canadian, who grew up with a family, who instilled the importance and value of faith, family, community, integrity, education and hard work.
Janice proudly served 2-terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) from 2008-2015. During this time, she was appointed to a challenging Cabinet position as Parliamentary Assistant to Minister of Education. Previously to her time at the Legislature, Janice served 2-terms as a School Board Trustee with Edmonton Catholic School Board.
Janice has earned several academic achievements. From the University of Alberta, she holds a Master of Education and Bachelor of Physical Education degrees. In addition, she holds Project Management and Project Leadership Certificates from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and from the Institute of Corporate Directors-Rotman the programs of Governance Essentials and Boardroom Financial Essentials.
Janice is a strong community supporter and a fixture at countless community events. Her most gratifying accomplishments are rooted in volunteering in the Edmonton area, and to empower a new generation of women leaders to step-up and seek political office or to serve at the executive level in their own community.
Janice will be celebrating 33 years of marriage this year with her husband Steve a proud Croatian-Canadian. Together they have two adult children.
